Stage Notes presents WORKING

Published: Thursday, 04 May 2017

Stage Notes is proud to present WORKING, based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book of interviews with American workers about their jobs. With music by Stephen Schwartz, James Taylor, Lin-Manuel Miranda and others, WORKING, in Terkel’s words, tells the story of the “extraordinary dreams of ordinary people”. The show will be presented May 18 and 19 at the Dulles State Office Building at 7:00pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7.00 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available from Stage Notes students or at the door.

WORKING paints a vivid portrait of the men and women that the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the phone operator, the waitress, the millworker, the mason and the housewife, just to name a few. Nominated for six Tony Awards, this classic has been updated for a modern age. Originally produced in Chicago in 1977, this new 2012 version of Working is a musical exploration of people from all walks of life. The strength of the show is in the core truths that transcend specific professions; the key is how people's relationships to their work ultimately reveal key aspects of their humanity, regardless of the trappings of the job itself.
